(ii) Maximum Retail Price (MRP) should be properly checked before paying to avoid paying
                               more than the market price.
(iii) Check the expiry and manufacture date before buying any good from the market.

                            (v) Do not leave a small amount of disparity unattended. This may make the shopkeeper liable
to continue the disparity for the other consumers as well.
(vi) Do not get fooled by the offers given by sellers to promote their brand. Carefully analyse
                               it before availing it.

                         7. Suppose you buy a bottle of honey and a biscuit packet. Which logo or mark you will have
                            to look for and why?
Ans. When purchasing honey or biscuit packets, it is important to look for specific logos or marks
such as ISI or Agmark. The Agmark mark should be present on honey bottles as it falls under
the agricultural category, while the ISI mark should be found on biscuit packets as they are
food products. These logos serve as certifications of quality for goods in the market. Only
producers who adhere to the quality standards set by the issuing organizations are permitted
to use these marks. Therefore, if a bottle of honey or a biscuit packet displays one of these
logos, it indicates that the product meets high-quality standards.

                            (i) The Consumer Protection Act (COPRA) was passed by the Government in 1986, for the
security of consumers and to prevent them from exploitation at the market level.
(ii) The Right to Information Act was passed in October, 2005. This law ensures its citizens all
the information about the functions of government departments. It helps in making people
of the country aware of the functioning of the Government.
(iii) A consumer court was set up for people where cases against any disparity with the consumer
                               were raised.
(iv) The Act has enabled consumers to have the right to represent in the Consumer Disputes
                               Redressal Commissions.
                         9. Mention some of the rights of consumers and write a few sentences on each.
Ans. Some of the rights of consumers are:
                            (i) Right to Information – The RTI Act was passed in October 2005 with the aim of making
every citizen of the country aware of the functioning of the Government.

the service. No customer can be denied the right to choose what they want to buy.

practices and exploitation. If any damage is done to a consumer, they have the right to get
compensation depending on the degree of damage.
(iv) Right to Represent – This act gives the right of the consumer to present before the
consumer court and present their case of disparity in the form of law.
                         10. By what means can the consumers express their solidarity?
Ans. (i) Consumers can express their solidarity by organising themselves in small groups that can
                               fight against exploitative trade policies.
(ii) Consumer organisations by writing articles and holding exhibitions can bring any kind of
